Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad is CURRENTLY accepting applications for the following positions:

Emergency Medical Technicians

Driver Members

Youth Squad Members

Below you will find the requirements and job responsibilities  for each class of membership.

The following are the basic requirements of becoming a member:

  1. PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK
  2. HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD ( NO SERIOUS OFFENSES THE PAST 5 YRS)
  3. LIFT A MINIMUM OF 100 LBS WITH ASSISTANCE
  4. BE OLDER THEN 16 YEARS OF AGE 

Emergency Medical Technicians(EMTS)-

An EMT is a credentialed member who is directly responsible for providing emergency medical care, treatment and transport of any ill or injured patients when the need should arise. 

Qualified applicants for the position of EMT should have the following qualifications:

  1. An Active NJ or NREMT Certification
  2. An Active AHA BLS Certification( We can certify you if needed)
  3. The ability to work and make clear sound decisions in stressful situations
  4. Be able to lift a minimum 100lbs with assistance.

Driver Members-

A driver member plays an essential role within our organization. Drivers should be able to assist with non-care based jobs such as but not limited to; Grabbing supplies from the ambulance, loading and unloading patients into and out of the ambulance with the use of a stretcher, providing safe transport of the crew and patient to and from emergency scenes, and ability to document patient demographics into our charting system.

  Qualified applicants for Driver membership positions should have the following:

  1. A valid Drivers license issued by NJ DMV
  2. Be at least 18 years of age
  3. Pass a Specialized driving class
  4. Be able to lift and move equipment and patients when needed.
  5. Be able to lift at least 100 lbs with assistance
  6. The ability to work and make clear sound decisions in stressful situations

Even though drivers are an essential role within our organization, We hope that you will eventually become trained EMTs. Those who show an expressed interest in the squad will be eligible to receive sponsorship by the squad and take advantage of the NJ State EMT Training fund which covers the entire cost of the class.

Youth Squad Members- 

A youth squad member is anyone between the ages of 16-18 who is interested in learning more about the medical field. This opportunity is not something that should not be taken lightly. You may be a teenager at home or school, but here you are a trained professional ready to provide life saving skills to those in need. We provide you the opportunity to ride along with Trained Emergency Medical Professionals with years of experience. You will be exposed to real life emergencies so it is important that you maintain high level of professionalism at all times. Youth Members will be expected to participate in the following squad activities:

  1. Rig checks at the beginning of each shift
  2. identify each piece of equipment,the uses of them, and their location in the ambulance
  3. attend educational sessions
  4. Maintain a B average in school

We hope that you will eventually become trained EMTs. Those who show an expressed interest in the squad will be eligible to receive sponsorship by the squad and take advantage of the NJ State EMT Training fund which covers the entire cost of the class.
